My 22-month-old granddaughter was headed into the house with muddy feet…probably because we were making mud pies on the back porch. I scared her by saying a bit too loud, “No, don’t go in the house, you’ll get mud all over the floor!”
She turned and gave me the look her mother uses when someone is doing something they shouldn’t. She then held up her little index finger and sternly admonished me, “Don’t! Knock off, Grandma! Knock off!” I knocked it off. How dare I be so bossy?

I have no Grandchildren and yes I am bitter about it.
